WORLD WAR I GALLERY

The French Renault FT-18, restored after being found in Afghanistan, is at the entrance to the World War I Gallery. This tank introduced a revolving turret for the first time that has become a standard feature for all tanks.

The object in the mini-diorama is a protective device used by troops to cross No Man's Land. It had wheels, but its locomotive power was supplied by the soldier crawling and pushing it forward.

The front end of the Mark V*. This tank is one of the first types produced by the British during World War I and also used by American troops. The Mark V* is part of a life-size diorama.

The back of the Mark V*. The wooden beams chained across the top were removed and placed underneath for traction to help it unditch if it became stuck.

A German machine gun team in the diorama.

The diorama is quite large and impressive in scope.

An interior World War I trench diorama is the latest addition to the gallery.

A display of photos and equipment of the Great War.
